- Architecture becomes interesting only when it is sculpture.
- Architecture is primarily experienced visually. All visual
experience is carried by light. Light is what makes the
shapes in your mind. Light is what makes Architecture.
(Look at Aalto.)
- Architecture is about placing materials, and experiencing
the voids that are left.
- The primary goal of Architecture is to make spaces where
people feel comfortable.
- Architecture is site specific. Respect the land. Integrate
the buildings and landscape. The connection between land
and buildings is not an afterthought, it is a pre-requisite.
- Each site has many individual moments, many
atmospheres. Visit, stay, linger, wander, live and
experience a site many times while designing and
building.
- Architects who design buildings on sites they have not
visited should have their licenses revoked.
- Listen to the people, hear how they live, and sculpture
functional shapes around their life.
- Great Architecture starts with a sculptural concept, and
realizes the concept by respectfully placing materials.
- The money is in the details. Save on the details and the
place will look cheap.
- Experience Quality
